can you elaborate on your point of "so not doing a Science undergraduate degree was a very good choice"? i'm in the middle of doing my uac application. thanks!
I don’t mean that a B. Sci or any Science degrees are “bad”. I just really want to be a doctor (through postgraduate studies - cause the UMAT went horribly for me), and in the criteria for postgrad studies they don’t require a Science degree. In fact, they prefer people who don’t have science undergraduate degrees (especially for the communications and ethics aspect of being a doctor). I also didn’t choose a Science degree at Usyd because you have to do 12 Credit points of Mathematics. As much as I enjoyed maths classes at school, I’m quite the failed Asian, and I’m actually terrible at maths. And for me personally, it wouldn’t really feel like university if I wasn’t at Usyd. But that’s just a personal thing. I’ve been to other uni campuses, and the learning environment is different. I just like Usyd a lot.
Don’t get me wrong though, I love science, and I really miss it. I just read the New Scientist now. But I knew that if I did do a science degree, my marks would be quite low, and I wouldn’t be able to get into Grad Med (you need at least a credit average throughout your undergrad degree). At the moment though, I’m still looking at a double B. Sci/B.Arts. I’m just so indecisive!
Also, another reason why I didn’t choose Science at Uni… probably 80% of people or more who are in the faculty of science want to do graduate entry medicine. So you really have to be the best of the best in your cohort if you’re seriously considering it. I’m in the Faculty of Arts, and people think I’m crazy for still considering grad-med. But that rules out the competition, I guess.
I met a girl at uni, who I’m quite good friends with now, who is doing the double B. Sci/B.Arts, and she wants to do grad-med also. But in her first semester, she didn’t do too well in her Science and Maths subjects. So she’s changing to an Arts degree for next year. (She just dropped the Science bit of her double degree). So if you’re stuck, you could possibly look at that course, so if you don’t like the science or the arts, you could drop one or the other.
I hope I haven’t confused you! (sorry for the very long reply)
